There is a saying that “children are international students from the future.”
What will form the basis for successful “learning” that enables children to live resiliently and strongly in the world 10, 20, 30 years from now?
How can we provide meaningful “learning” for our children in the present?
And are children the only ones who learn?
We, as adults, may also learn and grow. --- If so, what is the definition of “learning?”
What about unforced learning that inspires curiosity and imagination? --- What are the motives of “learning?”
What do we learn? Where do we learn? Who do we learn with? Why do we learn? Who do we learn for?
While thinking about “future learning,” why not experience starting a business with colleagues?
"Startup Weekend Tokyo Future Learning" offers you this opportunity!

◆About Startup Weekend

Startup Weekends (hereafter SW) are “Startup Experience Events” where you learn through the act of creating. Only at these events can you learn the methodology for shaping ideas and experience being involved in startups realistically.

SW begins with pitches on the first night, where participants bring and announce their ideas to colleagues. Over the next two days, hustlers, hackers, and designers will form teams to develop a minimal business model in line with user experience. Hustlers will be responsible for management and customer development, hackers for functional development, and designers for easy-to-use design.
It does not matter if you do not have specific knowledge or skills, as long as you have ideas.
If you do not have any ideas, but you have engineering, design or marketing skills, you can play an active role on your team to create a product and have a real startup experience. It does not matter who you are. Everyone has something to contribute!

※ The majority of the participants will be joining us for the first time. So please do not worry if this is your first time taking part in the event.
※ Facilitation will be in Japanese.

◆About the Community "Startup Weekend Tokyo"

This is the Startup Weekend Tokyo Community. Startup Weekend is a “startup practice event” which has been held more than 7,000 times with over 410,000 participants worldwide. It is a 54-hour weekend event during which the participants form teams and work together to develop a working prototype by Sunday evening. Startup Weekend is also the name of an international NPO organization.

So-Young Kang

So-Young Kang is a highly sought out speaker globally across US, Asia, Europe, Australia, MiddleEast and Africa on multiple topics across Transformation Design, Innovation, Leadership, Culture, Strategy, Education/EdTech and Entrepreneurship. She is an author, Huffington Post blogger, and frequent guest on Channel News Asia (Asian TV news channel), and has spoken to audiences that include leaders from multi-national corporations, governments, educational institutions, and social impact organizations. From the TEDx stage to The World Economic Forum, to innovation conferences to women’s leadership forums, So-Young is a powerful speaker who is described as “engaging”, “thought-provoking,” and “inspiring.”

So-Young is a pioneer and serial entrepreneur constantly looking at new ways of solving big challenges. Her latest challenge is focused on how to maximize human potential and reach a billion people through founding Gnowbe, an innovative mobile-first training and engagement platform focused on driving behavior change for real impact. This was spun-out from her first company, Awaken Group, a multi-disciplinary Transformation Design (TD) firm that integrates strategy, leadership and innovation to catalyze change. Her experiences also include McKinsey & Company, Harvard Business School and Citigroup. With the impact of her work, she was nominated to be a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2014.

She believes in giving back having founded The Young Professionals’ Group (YPG) in 2000, a nonprofit in 5 countries dedicated to helping students achieve their professional dreams. She sits on the boards of Open University West Africa and Love North Korea Ministries. So-Young is a Korean-American based out of both the US and Singapore.

Mac Ling currently is an executive coach and strategy consultant serving high-potential leaders across Asia-Pacific.

With over 15 years of experience as a technology and marketing executive across the U.S. and Asia, Mac’s wealth of experience spans the corporate, entrepreneurial and non-profit spheres. This diversity of experience has given him unique insights into how global companies and leaders deal with cross-cultural challenges and driving transformation, both at an individual and an organizational level.
Mac has a B.S. from UC San Diego in Cognitive Science, and an M.B.A. from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. Mac is a certified Advanced Master Coach and was trained at the Center for Advanced Coaching.

LEE Hoi Leong

Lee Hoi Leong graduated from the University of Tokyo, Information Studies/Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. After graduating, Mr. Lee was engaged in work on corporate growth and overseas development support in the Singapore government for 10 years.
In 2017, he joined Mistletoe, a community that fosters startups to solve social problems facing the future, and in particular, worked on the mission of Lifelong Learning, an agender that is how to update the education and learning environment for the future. He organizes projects and business development with startups and companies that offer new “learning” in Asia and America.
Based in Singapore, Mr. Lee is also the CEO of VIVITA, which aims to accelerate children's creativity.

Gaku Nakamura graduated from the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering in 2005. After graduation, he engaged in research at NTT DOCOMO. In 2007, he Launched Edtech service "Rarejob" with his middle and high classmate with a goal to make 10 million Japanese able to speak English through offers of one-on-one English conversation with Filipino by Skype. Listed on the 2014 TSE Mothers as the largest online English learning service, Rarejob aims to be a leading company in the field of EdTech in the world.

Born in 1991. Shotaro Kumamoto graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2013. As a new graduate, Mr. Kumamoto entered a tuition center and was involved in the establishment of an international school.
Following this, he started working with an education venture company as a program education business manager. The company became profitable in half a year.
Currently, he works as an area manager and director of a new programming school business within N High School run by Kadokawa Dwango Educational Corporation.

Jon Tan

He has been investing in technology startups since 2011. Some of the more recognizable names in his portfolio include Redmart, Chope and Ninja Van. In 2016 he co-founded Collision 8, a premium co-working space
bringing collaborative innovators together. He spends most of his time on Saturday Kids, a curiosity school for children and young adults. Saturday Kids' mission is to transform kids into curious, self-directed learners.
John is passionate about entrepreneurship and equipping young people with the skills and mindset to solve some of the biggest problems the world is facing. He is a yoga loving father of five whose music playlist alternates between jazz, old-school hip-hop and modern classical. On weekends there’s a good chance you’ll find him at The Projector. In a different life he’ll probably be a film critic. Or a music writer. Or a ski instructor.

She joined a Malaysian local startup following her tenure as a system integrator.
As a representative of EdTech Asia Japan, Ms. Yamashita has participated in an EdTech conference in Vietnam and has been responsible for planning with EdTech at the core.
She first participated in Startup Weekend in Seattle, and then in Bangkok and Hong Kong, before becoming an organizer in Tokyo.

Taishi Akiyama

Taishi Akiyama joined Startup Weekend Tokyo for the first time in 2013 and his team won the event. Since then, Mr. Akiyama has been participating in the event since 2014 as a sponsor and organizer of SWT education venue, and has participated as an organizer of SWT's first drone. After Keio SFC, KDDI, and Benesse, he started working as a freelancer from April 2019. I am an engineer who travels as a freelancer from time to time.
I first participated in SW at SWTokyo in Shenzhen in 2018, and joined SWT Maker and SWT Robotics as a SW organizer.
I am involved in community activities such as the launching of an Estonian robot education festival “Robotex” in Japan, the launching of a farmtory-lab where technology such a laser cutter is used to make life more enjoyable, etc. Recently, I have been enjoying the electronic music scene as an engineer DJ.
